April Burns
Staff Therapist
(She/Her/Hers)
April has her Master of Social Work Degree with a specialization in working with children and families. She has years of experience working with youth/teens both individually and in a group setting.
April is currently under the supervision of Lauren Barris, LCSW who is DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician.
April has always enjoyed working with adolescents and their families; this passion was confirmed while she was providing therapy in CPS schools during the 2021-2022 school year. Providing youth a non-judgemental space to be honest about their emotions, can be the first step to helping teens build a safe, healthy life.
A primary interest of April’s has been understanding why behaviors happen and what they are trying to tell us. She has experience working with adolescents who are experiencing intense, depressive symptoms as well as those who are learning to manage their anxiety and ADHD.
Using authenticity and kindness to support the evidenced-based, DBT approach to changing behavioral patterns, she works with clients to achieve their own goals. April practices self-care by hanging out at Lake Michigan or spending time with friends and family. Some may say if you really want to get her talking, just bring up The Bachelor, Musicals, or anything pop-culture."
