Great Lakes Therapy Center Adolescent DBT

Adolescent DBT

Does your teen struggle with regulating their emotions or engage in high-risk behaviors? Are they resorting to destructive coping mechanisms? Has your child consistently been in treatment for a mental health diagnosis and once a week talk therapy does not seem to be enough? Does your family struggle with communication or conflict resolution?

Our Program

The goal of our Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program for Teens and Families is to help clients learn how to regulate their emotions and behaviors and to reduce family conflict. This is accomplished through an evidence based model that provides opportunity to learn and practice skills in a safe and supervised setting. Often leading to improved emotional, social and academic functioning.

Great Lakes Therapy Center Caretaker Involvement

Caretaker involvement

Our approach to teen clients is very similar to our adult DBT treatment with one key difference: we require caretaker involvement in the therapeutic and skills-building process. This approach avoids higher levels of care while being more involved than once a week individual therapy—and is more cost effective as a result.

Why it works

GLTC’s comprehensive DBT model is designed to break the cycle of repeated crises by providing effective and strategic support. The outpatient nature of this program allows clients the opportunity to stay in their day to day lives while receiving the necessary guidance to apply DBT skills “in the moment”. Additionally, the required caregiver involvement throughout all phases of treatment allows the family system to adapt and therefore not only support the teen’s recovery but often solidify it.
