Addiction Treatment
GLTC’s approach to treating Addictions and Substance Use Disorders is based on the DBT-SUDs protocol. Clients interested in these services can expect the same intake process as other full protocol DBT clients but a slightly different treatment plan. Given the complex nature of recovery and the research on effective treatment, this program involves additional support for the client, a DBT Skills Group adapted to focus on the skills needed to break the cycle of addiction and a strong encouragement to include family, partners or other supportive people in the treatment plan.

DBT Skills Group for Substance Use Disorders & Addictions
This DBT Skills group is for adults who would like to build skills to make and sustain the changes needed to address addictions and live a sober lifestyle. Based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (DBT-SUDS) and other evidence based treatments, this group will help clients make and sustain the changes needed to live aligned with their substance use and/or addiction goals. This group meets the requirements for full protocol DBT clients whose primary target is substance use and/or addictive behavior(s).
Skillfully Sober
This group helps participants strengthen skills and processes so they can make and sustain the changes needed to live a sober lifestyle. Based on (DBT-SUDS) Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Substance Use Disorders and other evidence based treatments, this group is here to help you find the support you need to live a life worth living. This group will run ongoing and clients can join at any time after completing the intake process. If a client has no previous DBT Skills training, we recommend completing a skill group or our DBT-SUDs Skills group prior to joining this one. This group centers on client co-facilitation and mutual aid.
Friends & Family Support Group
This group is for friends, family members or partners of someone who is in recovery from an addiction. Your loved one can be either an adult or adolescent. This group is both psycho-educational and supportive because supporting someone through their recovery is nuanced, challenging and at times emotionally draining. The goal of the group is to learn new healthy tools to cope and to connect with others who get it.
Our Approach to Recovery
Our approach is one of dialectical abstinence. With an emphasis on compassion and connection, dialectical abstinence synthesizes two approaches for dealing with addictive behaviors: abstinence and harm reduction. Great Lakes Therapy Center’s Addiction Treatment will teach how to practice mindfulness skills, recognize and manage substance use urges, cope and prevent relapses, regulate emotions and tolerate distress, and build meaningful relationships.
